The Alaska Zoo!

On Memorial Day we decided to pay the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage a little visit. It was kind of a cold day, but we had a great time! The zoo is pretty small and sprawled out in a forest, which was really cool. We saw all sorts of beautiful animals, such a sleeping snow leopard and a cute little red fox, but the coolest were a big brown bear; two big, frisky wolf pups on leashes giving their keepers trouble, smelly alpacas, and a little female porcupine staring at us while she climbed up her cage! (she was probably our favorite part of the zoo!)

Fort Shirley: our home within our home during Memorial Day weekend!

During Memorial Day weekend we reverted back to childhood and decided to build a fort (Fort Shirley) in our living room! It was really more like a canopy, but oh well. We built it out of tent poles and blankets and put our mattress and every pillow and sleeping bag we own inside it. We did everything in our fort that weekend: we slept there, ate meals there, watched movies, and played games! We also discovered that mummy sleeping bags can make GREAT, warm clothes...as you can see. ;) It was great fun and sad when we had to take it down and get back to normal life!

Our Sunday drive around Wasilla, Hatcher's Pass, and Knik, AK!

A few sundays ago we decided to go for a drive and explore more of this magnificent state! We drove high up to see an awesome view of the Anchorage area and then ventured to the Palmer and Wasilla area, which is less than an hour away from Anchorage. From there we went to Hatcher's Pass, an old mine, which was closed because it is too snowy and early in the year! So we continued on and explored around the Knik area and ate our lunch next to Knik lake- it was a lovely day (even if we did get lost at one point)!

More Honeymoon Pics from our weekend trip on the Alaska Railroad between Anchorage and Seward and our glacial and wildlife cruise in Seward!!

Here is a sampling of the pictures we took as we traveled through the Alaskan wilderness on the awesome Alaskan Railroad! As you can see, the sights were breathtaking, even though the snow is not completely gone yet! We also went on a four hour cruise in Seward, Alaska and Jenny got seasick! Haha, but it turned out ok and we still had a TON of fun riding the waves (because it was a rainy and windy), getting wet, and seeing animals such as bald eagles, puffins, stellar sea lions, harbor seals, porpoises, a killer whale, and a breaching humpback whale! Getting sick was worth it to see those things, though in the end we were all tuckered out (as you can see)!
